Introduction to ministry in Lutheran education

What is Introduction to ministry in Lutheran education?

Introduction to ministry in Lutheran education is a workshop for ministry staff who have commenced their employment in Lutheran education. To be completed in the first two years of employment, it was developed for new ministry staff who have roles and responsibilities in areas such in ministry, chaplaincy, worship, devotions, pastoral care, wellbeing and counselling.

The three-day professional learning workshop is available either annually or biennially in one Australian location and as recommended by Regional Office Formation Leaders. The workshop is facilitated by Regional Office Formation Leaders and experienced school ministry staff. Over the three days, four topics are covered:

  • Topic 1 – Lutheran education: the context
  • Topic 2 – Worship
  • Topic 3 – Pastoral and self-care
  • Topic 4 – Learning in Lutheran education

During the workshop days, participants have time to reflect and record their learning, possible actions, steps and questions as they arise during each of the topics.

Why is this workshop needed?

Ministry staff have a critical role in the mission and ministry of Lutheran education. The three components for Am include the satisfactory attendance and completion of:

  • Introduction to ministry in Lutheran education workshop
  • All Connect sessions including the submission of the Connect ePortfolio, and the
  • A professional learning plan. This plan may include future units of study or qualifications from Australian Lutheran College (ALC) or equivalent, that supports their ministry role and responsibilities.

Further information is available in the Accreditation for ministry (Am) document.
