Australia has a long tradition of Lutheran education, with schools and early childhood services operating in Australia since 1839. As a church with an emphasis on biblical literacy and Christian education, the Lutheran Church has supported education since its beginnings in the sixteenth century.

The Lutheran church also has its own tertiary institution, Australian Lutheran College, which provides special training for Lutheran teachers that promotes a distinctive ethos in its schools and early childhood services. Learn more about the history and structure of Lutheran Education.

The LEA Child Safety Report sets out the progress made by Lutheran schools and early childhood services and outlines how we are committed to keeping children safe from harm so they can grow and flourish in a supportive environment.

The report describes child-safe actions undertaken in a range of educational settings.

There are more than 70 Lutheran schools in Australia and more than 60 early childhood care services.

Lutheran education caters to a range of educational levels including kindergartens, primary schools, secondary schools and combined primary/secondary schools. There are more than 25 schools in South Australia, more than 25 schools in Queensland, 17 schools across Victoria, Tasmania and New South Wales, three schools in the Northern Territory and one school in Western Australia.

Lutheran schools are funded by school fees and taxpayer funding via the Federal Government. Regional bodies oversee the distribution of government funding to individual schools.
